- Dynamic Warm-up and Flexibility Training , Michael Ryan, ATC, CSCS 14:14 ($20)
This DVD will demonstrate our dynamic warm-up and flexibility training program. These functional movements are ideal for pre-practice, pre-game or pre-workout. Current research shows dynamic and movement based warm-ups are more effective than a general warm-up followed by static stretching. Static "cold-type" stretching was the gold standard for many years, however recent studies have shown that static stretching can decrease speed, strength and power for up to 2 hours. Therefore we propose static stretching for more than 2-3 seconds as a part of rehabilitation protocols, when major deficits are found, and for post-exercise to prevent delayed onset muscle soreness.
- Biomechanics of Throwing Fleisig, Andrews 31:21 ($20).
This video is an overview of common injuries occurring in baseball. It includes discussion on different injury mechanisms of the shoulder and elbow, and references some of the studies ASMI has performed over the years. An understanding and application of proper throwing mechanics can improve performance and reduce the risk of injury.
- The Fine Arts of Throwing and Pitching Andrews, Fleisig 49:16 ($20)
Based on scientific research conducted by the American Sports Medicine Institute, this DVD teaches 13-18 year-old baseball players the intricacies of pitching and throwing. Doctor Jim Andrews, noted sports medicine physician, has had his research team working on identifying the proper biomechanical skills for several years. The results, presented here by Coach Bill Thurston of Amherst College, will assist the young player in acquiring the needed skills to avoid injury and have along productive career. Coach Thurston not only addresses proper throwing mechanics and different pitches, he also considers conditioning, warm-up, stretching and injury prevention.
